Coming to America
Thanks to Netflix and nightly boxset binges, America already feels familiar to travellers. But off screen, it’s so much more. A land of endless highways and canyon-studded horizons, snow-covered peaks and surf-filled beaches, neon city skylines and mom ‘n’ pop one horse towns – America is a ‘hand-sewn on the porch swing’ patchwork quilt of unique and undiscovered places.
Need to know before you go
When to go
Most nationalities can spend an all-American summer working at camp (Jun-Sep). Aussies and Kiwis get the best of both worlds, with the option for a winter or ski job during their uni summer holidays (Nov-Feb), plus a grad-only 12-month visa. All J-1 visas build in a grace period to travel around the States after you’ve finished working.
What it pays
As a first-timer at summer camp in America, you’ll earn one of the highest salaries of any camp provider – USD $2,000, with meals and accommodation included. For ski season or casual work, you can expect to earn $15-20 an hour depending on the state, plus tips (where applicable). Many of our hospitality jobs also include subsidised staff housing.
Where to go
We work with summer camps from California to Connecticut. All are in incredible wilderness locations – with a large concentration in the Midwest and East Coast. Our ski jobs are mostly in resorts around the Rocky Mountains. As for your 30 days after camp or your winter job – the country is your oyster. You can travel anywhere. Happy as a clam.
