Top of the world

Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb

Holding the prestigious title of North America’s largest ski area, Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb undoubtedly offer some of the best skiing and riding in the world. With over 215 runs, 16 powder-filled bowls, numerous terrain parks and rowdy après – it’s a must for both powder hounds and partygoers.

To get between Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb mountains, you’ll need to ride the Peak2Peak – the world’s longest and highest unsupported gondola. Expect knockout views and, for the brave, glass-bottomed gondolas. (Those with vertigo need not apply). Off the mountain, the town itself gives off serious snow-globe vibes and is split between Whistler Village and Upper Village – just a five-minute walk from each other. Famous for its nightlife and culinary treats, after a shift and stint on the slopes, there’s 200+ restaurants, bars, breweries and pubs to get stuck into.

Why Whistler?

Whistler is at the top of most Canada wishlists and it’s easy to see why. World-class runs and powder bowls go hand-in-hand with an excellent après scene and a whole gamut of other activities – from ziplining and snowshoeing to bobsleighing and whitewater rafting during the summer months. If you’re looking for a legendary destination to work your winter or summer season in Canada – Whistler is the place to do it. But beware – this type of main character energy comes with solid competition, so get your JENZA Work Canada job applications in early!

Whistler in winter

With over 215 runs spread across a massive 8,171 acres, Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb cater for beginners, pros and ever skier in between. You’ll also have your pick of 16 different alpine bowls and three separate glaciers. Plus, Whistler has one of the longest ski seasons in North America, with an average of 408 inches of snow per year. Add in adrenaline activities from bobsleighing to bungees, and you can see why working holidaymakers flock here to work and play for the season.

Whistler in summer

What Whistler rocks in winter, it matches in outdoor adventures come spring and summer. There’s an excellent biking park – as well as countless tree-lined trails down the surrounding mountains. There’s also amazing hiking (and if you’re lucky, a glimpse of one of 60 resident black bears), canoeing, kayaking, SUP, via ferrata, and ziplining down the longest zipline in North America. For chilled days off the trails, take a picnic to either Green or Alta Lakes to soak up the Insta-quote views.

What the squad say

Cat, our resident Canada expert, says: "As a place to live, work and ski on your working holiday - Whistler is iconic. But with that can come crowded slopes and competition for jobs and housing - especially for Whistler Blackcomb. For the best chances of landing a winter job in Whistler, get your hiring preferences down as soon as the IEC visa pools open - usually in Dec/Jan the year before."

Garibaldi Lift Company

Follow and find out more

While Whistler isn’t exactly lacking when it comes to après joints, we’d argue that the Garibaldi Lift Company – or the ‘GLC’ – is one of the finest to whet your whistle. At the base of one of the main runs into the village, it’s a 'too cool for ski school' spot with outdoor fire pits, patio parties, live DJ sets, gastro grub, and great views to watch people rip down the slopes.

2

Après.png

Après Après

Follow and find out more

So much fun it had to be named twice, Après Après is the place to go if you’re looking for a rager. This club is open until the wee hours and has DJs pumping the tunes all night long. The music changes depending on the night, so head to their socials to check out what’s on. And maybe try and schedule a late shift for the next day...

Whistler Bungee

Follow and find out more

This is one for you big boy/girl pants. Perched high above the glacier-fed Cheakamus River and surrounded by basalt cliffs and pine forested-slopes, this 50-metre high bungee is arguably one of the most scenic jumps in the world. It’s also open throughout the year. So come rain, snow or shine – you don't have any excuse not to take the leap.

The Cloudraker Skybridge

Find out more

Definitely one for the family album. Located at the summit of the 2,181-metre-tall Whistler mountain, the Cloudraker Skybridge offers some of the best views in the world – no joke. Spanning 130 metres in length, soak up panoramic views of Whistler Bowl and the town itself – as well as the surrounding peaks of the Rockies and wider British Columbian countryside.
