 Full details about Work Australia

Summary

Along with up to 21 of your soon-to-be best friends, explore all the best bits of Australia's most liveable city and surrounding area with our legendary in-country sidekicks, Welcome to Travel. With transfers, accommodation, job workshops, tax and bank essentials, and side quests down to beaches, islands and surf camps included – get set up with everything you need to kickstart your working holiday visa in Australia.

Day-to-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Melbourne

After a long flight with your phone and body battery in the red, you’re in no state to navigate new public transport systems. Welcome to Travel will pick you up from the airport and deliver you straight to your North Melbourne hostel to recharge. Landing a few days before? No worries. Your airport pickup is included and can be arranged for any time on any day before the tour. Need extra nights accommodation? Let us know.

Day 2: Meet the group and walking tour

Today you'll meet your fellow travellers and sort all the essentials you need to start working in Australia (and more importantly, start getting paid!). This includes help setting up your Australian bank account, Australian phone number and tax file number. With the admin out the way, we head out on a guided walking tour of Melbourne to find your feet (and your new favourite coffee spot... clue: there'll be hundreds of these in Melbourne).

We end the day with a family welcome dinner on the iconic Yarra River.

Day 3: Work and travel advice, and Aboriginal Heritage tour

Today it's time to start thinking about what you'll be doing in Australia with two presentations from the team. The first is an employment presentation where we'll cover off everything you need to find a working holiday job here – including how to find work, how to lay out your resume, and how to access your exclusive Welcome to Travel work resources and job database.

In the second travel presentation, we'll fill you in on all of Australia's iconic destinations: what to do, see, and how to get around.

In the afternoon, we head out on an Aboriginal Heritage Walk to learn all about Naarm (Melbourne) from an indigenous perspective. We'll also explore Melbourne's famous laneways, street art and end up in Chinatown to grab food.

Day 4: Road trip and surfing

Did someone say ROAD TRIP?! Strap yourself in for a drive to two of the most beautiful areas of Australia – Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island.

En route you’ll get chance to stretch those legs with a surf lesson on a beginner’s surf beach. Your tutor will show you what you need to do to catch a wave... or at least wipe out with some dignity intact.

You’ll end the day on world-famous Phillip Island watching the world’s smallest (and cutest) penguins waddling across the beach at sunset – one of the most iconic things to do in Australia. We stay overnight here.

Day 5: Australian wildlife and wine

After a bush walk, get up close and personal with Australia's iconic wildlife – hand-feeding baby kangaroos and spotting koalas. Grab some beach time before we hit the road again – stopping at some of the East Coast's most spectacular viewpoints.

Finish off the day with a glass of red… or two, straight from the local Mornington vineyards. Then, suitably merry, you’ll get whisked back to Melbourne, with the tunes turned up.

Day 6: Work and travel help and farewells

Remember those presentations on Day 2? It's time to put them into practice. You’ll sit down with a member of the Community Team to chat all about your Australia plans whether that’s help finding farm work or questions about your resume.

We then have a final farewell meal to swap numbers, stories and plans.

Day 7: Free weekend

Enjoy a free weekend with your new mates – visiting all those hidden spots and Melbourne icons we'll have been raving about all week.
