For UK passport holders:

- You must be 18-35 (inclusive), meaning you must apply before your 36th birthday  
- Visas are for 24 months, and once granted, you have 12 months to enter Canada
- You must have no criminal convictions from the last five years 
- UK passport holders can now apply for an additional 12-month IEC visa (all visas must be applied for before your 36th birthday)

 


- You must be aged 18-30 (35 for some countries)
- Hold a passport from one of these countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden
- You must have health insurance for the duration of your intended stay
- Must have a ticket to leave Canada or have enough money to buy one
- You must have support funds of $2,500 CAD


For New Zealand passport holders:

- You must be aged 18-35 (inclusive), meaning you must apply before your 36th birthday
- Hold a New Zealand passport
- You must have health insurance for the duration of your intended stay
- Must have a ticket to leave Canada or have enough money to buy one
- You must have support funds of $2,500 CAD


For Korean passport holders:

- You must be aged 18-35 (inclusive), meaning you must apply before your 36th birthday  
- Hold a Korean passport
- You must have health insurance for the duration of your intended stay
- Must have a ticket to leave Canada or have enough money to buy one
- You must have support funds of $2,500 CAD


For Australian passport holders:

- You must be aged 18-35 (inclusive), meaning you must apply before your 36th birthday  
- Hold an Australian passport
- You must have health insurance for the duration of your intended stay
- Must have a ticket to leave Canada or have enough money to buy one
- You must have support funds of $2,500 CAD


To work in Canada, you must be eligible for a Canada working holiday visa (known as an IEC visa). More confusing than the first time you get maple syrup on your fry-up, Canada IEC visas operate via a pool system – where you enter your profile and names are drawn at regular intervals until either the pools shut or your country's allocation runs out. It changes each year, but the IEC visa pools typically open in Dec/Jan and close in Oct/Nov. Entering the pool as soon as it opens ensures your name is exposed to the maximum number of draws – increasing your chance of getting an 'Invitation to apply' (ITA) for your visa.

No downhill skills required! Your Canada visa allows you to do pretty much any job in Canada. However, doing a ski or summer season resort job when you arrive is a great way to find your feet, meet other travellers, and live on the mountain. Plus, many seasonal jobs include subsidised staff accommodation - which is a total win when you've just moved over. With lift passes and lessons often included, it's a great time to learn to ski or board - but many non-skiers also work seasons. After all, snow angels can be just as impressive as switch backside 180s. And après is universal, right?
