There's plenty of long, quiet runs whatever your expertise – plus incredible hot springs right on the slopes. Once the snow melts in the spring, you’ll find one of the country’s best mountain biking parks as well as quad biking, hiking and whitewater rafting. While Panorama might lack the clout of some of its B.C. cousins like Whistler, it also lacks some of the crowds – making it a great place to ski and work the season. (Did we also mention the free staff lift pass?). A vast and friendly resort with over 130 well-groomed runs catering to all levels, there’s a great ski school for beginners and off-piste action for pros. Plus heli-skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling. One of the biggest draws lies slopeside in the form of Canada’s largest on-hill hot springs – perfect for a soak after a day of skiing or riding.

Panorama is an all-season resort. So, if you fall head over snowshoes for its charms, you can stay and work for the summer – or vice versa. As well as some pretty epic hikes, you’ve got some of the best mountain biking trails in the whole region here – as well as a life-accessed bike park. Add in rafting, golf, tennis, outdoor mountain yoga and quad biking and you can see why we can’t get enough of this spot – whatever the season. They’ve even got a ‘mountain coaster’ – AKA charging down the mountain at speeds of up to 40km per hour.

As a proper alpine village resort vs a town where you transfer to the hill, it has a friendly feel – so it’s great if you’re travelling solo. And because of the range of jobs available – both mountain and hospitality – it's equally good if you’re looking to get hired with mates. You also get a free lift pass – so as well as having less crowded runs for experienced skiers on days off, it’s also a non-scary place to learn to ski! We also had reciprocal riding rights or discounted passes to neighbouring resorts, like Revelstoke.”

While après usually starts with a soak in those aforementioned hot springs, it usually ends with some drinks in the T-Bar & Grill – which often pops off until the early hours. They’ve got cold pints of beer and classic bar snacks like nachos, burgers, and pizza – not to mention live music and sports too.

A 20-minute drive away lies Invermere – a charming town on the shores of Lake Windemere in the shadow of both the Rockies and the Purcell Mountains. There’s a whole host of things to do here – from perusing galleries to hanging out in breweries. There’s also free shuttles to Panorama if you decide to live in Invermere instead of at the resort.

If you’ve had a big day on the slopes and are craving a cold one, then you really need to make your way to the Jackpine Pub. Located right at the base of the mountain, it’s a laid-back favourite haunt for locals and seasonnaires and offers a fantastic array of locally-brewed craft beers and ales.
