From slush to sloshed – three unmissable events on the mountains.
Work hard, ski hard, party harder. Hannah knows how to make the most of time on and off the slopes. Here are her favourite events and apres-ski hangouts in Whistler.
Picture this: waking up to snow-capped peaks, crisp mountain air, and the buzz of a community that lives for adventure. That’s Whistler Blackcomb – a world-famous resort where life is anything but ordinary and where I was lucky enough to call home for a season.
Whether you’ve already begun your Canadian adventure or are deep in the planning stages of your winter season, make sure these events are on the Corona bucket list.
One of the most anticipated springtime events is Whistler’s Slush Cup. Picture this: people in crazy outfits skimming across a freezing pond on skis or a snowboard, all in front of hundreds! With tons of prizes up for grabs such as Best Dressed, Best Wipe-Out and more, the event brings serious competition and even more fun. Make sure you head up the mountain early to secure a good spot on the hill, order a drink and sit back with your friends to enjoy the excitement to come.
Since I worked for a large hotel in Whistler many of my friends and colleagues had signed up for the event – which made it even more fun to cheer them on (and laugh as many of them completely wiped out on the water). The Slush Cup is a full day packed with laughter, good times and plenty of drinks – making it an event that’s simply too good to miss!
If you fancy cheap drinks and even better music this is the spot for you! The event ran every third Sunday of the month, with five Corona buckets for just $35 – basically a no-brainer for après on the mountain. My friends and I went every time because it had that fun, European style après vibe which you don’t usually get in Canada. The après runs from 12-4pm allowing for plenty of time to party, socialise, boogie and get through the buckets.
This was such a social event and another great way to make new friends and connect with colleagues outside of work. For the perfect mountain day head up Whistler Mountain early to get some laps in and then ski over to Roundhouse Lodge for nonstop partying into the late afternoon.
The home of local rockers, the Hairfarmers, this place is a must for live music, incredible memories and dancing on the tables! Located in the upper village (right by my accommodation!) was the go-to spot on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, serving up three nights filled with laughter and fun. This place brought me so much closer to so many of my friends and quickly became an absolute favourite, especially after a long day on the mountain. Merlin’s captured the spirit of a European après-ski with its lively local band and charming, rustic mountain cabin décor. But the real highlight? Dancing on the tables! It wasn’t easy in ski boots, but the energy, the drinks, and the laughter shared with good friends made that post-ski afternoons unforgettable.
Can you imagine the atmosphere inside a mountainside lodge with hundreds of people singing the likes of Angels, Bad Romance, Love Story and many other classics? The energy inside Merlin’s when my friends and colleagues were there was incredible, turning countless evenings into unforgettable memories.
Whether you're visiting Whistler for a holiday or spending the season there, these events are simply unmissable. Whistler isn’t just fun – it’s a place that shapes you. Working here teaches you to be adaptable, confident, and part of a team in a fast-paced, international environment.
So, if you're looking for an adventure that's as good for your soul as it is for your future, Whistler's the place. See you there next season?
